Upcoming Miss Irby Events

Starting Monday, three large signs will begin making their way around the city of Sarajevo asking it’s citizens: Have you met Miss Irby? This poster is one of the ways we will promote the book over the next week. There are also many more events planned:

  • Sunday through Wednesday, there will be tables setup throughout town distributing a brochure about Miss Irby and Bibles (Miss Irby’s favorite book).
  • We will distribute 3000 flyers advertising the book and inviting people to our 100th anniversary event.
  • On Tuesday we will divide into three groups for a road trips to Banja Luka, Mostar, and Tuzla to distribute information there.
  • All of this will build up to September 15th, when we will celebrate Miss Irby’s life.
Today I was working on the program for the event. I thought I would share it with you. The songs are ones that were sung in Miss Irby’s school 100 years ago (I have written about them before here and here).

Stupila si nama… Usred noći tavne

Mučenika zemlju, koja nema zore,

Privila si duši, gdje planete gore,

O velika ženo Britanije slavne!

Preko naših polja, gdje kupine stoje,

Neumorno, kao sijač bogom dani,

Sijala si ispod magla neprestani’

Sve zvijezde srca i ljubavi svoje.

I svuda gdje pade tvoje zrnje čisto –

Plod obilan, zlatan suzom je zablistô,

Na slavu i hvalu tebi, naša mati!…

I vijekova mnogih kada konac bude,

Ovdje na oltaru ove srpske grude,

Pred tvojijem likom kandilo će sjati.

Abide with Me, Henry Lyte (1847). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Alen Hadžić

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
Earth’s joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour.
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s power?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

Rock Of Ages, Augustus M. Toplady (1776). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mirela Popaja i Alen Hadžić

Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood, from Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure; Save from wrath and make me pure.

Not the labor of my hands can fulfill Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know, could my tears forever flow,
All for sin could not atone; Thou must save, and Thou alone.

Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to the cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress; helpless look to Thee for grace;
Foul, I to the fountain fly; wash me, Savior, or I die.

While I draw this fleeting breath, when mine eyes shall close in death,

When I soar to worlds unknown, see Thee on Thy judgment throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee.
