Monday Motivation: Derek Redmond

Derek Redmond was a 400 meter sprinter for Great Britain in the 1992 Olympics. Plagued by injury throughout his career, Derek was at last healthy for the Olympics and projected to win a medal for his country. However, during his semifinal heat, a searing pain in his right quad brought him to his knees.

Here is where the story normally ends.

But Derek was determined to finish the race. Hopping on one leg and pushing away race officials, he continued down the track. Then this Olympic moment became unforgettable.

You’ll have to watch the video to see for yourself.

Derek Redmond refused to quit. He did not win his medal, but his effort is remember twenty years later.
