Monday Motivation: October Sky

october skyHomer Hickam‘s life changed the moment Sputnik went into orbit in 1957. Destined for his father’s coal mines, Homer dreamed of something more. Along with his friends, he began building rockets and setting them off (or trying to set them off) just outside of his hometown of Coalwood.

This true story recounts the journey of a coal miner’s son from nobody to NASA scientist. And in it is hope and challenge for any of us who dream.

“I come to believe that I have it in me to be somebody in this world …”

—Homer Hickam

And the final scene . . .

What do you dream of becoming?

About Josh

  • I read this book a couple of years ago, and I agree with your comments. It is an inspiring story that everyone should read. God gives each of us rich gifts and talents, but too many of us let circumstance and fear of failure and the expectations of other people shape our actions. The Bible says that we can trust God and that he will never abandon us. If we actually believed those two things, nothing could ever stop any of us from being all that we could be.
